Antenna Systems and Radio Propagation Predictions
Providing SCADA, voice, and high speed data services to energy related facilities present the designer with unique challenges in both on shore and offshore environments.  In this tutorial we will review the fundamentals of antenna design and radio propagation with an emphasis on the elements that are critical to designing wireless systems for the energy industry.  The tutorial will include practical examples of antenna systems design and propagation analysis for MF, HF, VHF/UHF, microwave/satellite and wireless LAN frequencies.

Who should attend?  Engineers, technicians and project managers involved with designing, maintaining or specifying wireless communications systems.

Course Outline:
  1)  Introduction to Radio Wave propagation for MF and HF Frequencies
  2)  Unique Characteristics of  Propagation over Water
  3)  Antenna Design Fundamentals for Dipole, Ground Plane, etc.
  4)  Computer Aided Antenna Design
  5)  Impedance Matching, Transmission Lines and Smith Charts
  6)  VHF/UHF/Microwave Propagation – Mobile and Point-to-Point
  7)  VHF/UHF/Microwave Antenna System Design
  8)  VHF/UHF/Microwave Systems Analysis
  9)  Antenna Diversity, Smart Antennas and MIMO Systems
10)  Computer Modeling of the Propagation Environment

Course Materials Supplied:

  • 40 page manual with 80 slides containing formulas, diagrams, and detailed information on antennas, transmission line and propagation predictions.
  • CD with Excel spreadsheets for analyzing path profiles, system gain, signal level and percent availability predictions, space diversity spacing and link improvement calculations, distance/bearing calculations and more.

e-Life in the Patch

Sponsored by:

Change is constant, and the patch is no exception, from crude-oil price fluctuations to the dynamic international economic crisis, and from a shrinking skilled-labor force to increasing reliance on automation and instantaneous, constant communications. These factors are driving the oil & gas sector to innovate and adapt using state-of-the-art communications.  e-Life in the Patch will reveal how, when, where and why those changes are being made - and what they mean to your business. This Session will explore how communications technologies affect and are changing life in the patch through developments in the areas of; tele-health, corporate distance learning, managing personnel communications, entertainment and crew morale, disaster preparedness, and crew safety. This program, hosted by GVF and sponsored by CapRock Communications, discusses in detail critical elements of the evolving e-life aboard the rig.

Speakers:

Peter Bronikowski, Director Government Systems, Globecomm Systems Inc.
